Planning A School Shuttle Mission
The The "Fluids and Gravity" work station on board the shuttle. When possible, we suggest beginning a mission with a 15 to 20 minute session in your school with the students who will be spending time on the shuttle. During this time the students will be briefed on what to expect when they are on board the vehicle, and what we expect of them.
Up to 20 students at a time, grades 4 - 6, will enjoy their Dream Flight USA shuttle experience. When considering the amount of time it will take for your students to complete their mission, please plan for one to two hours per group. For the students to get the most out of the experience, we recommend that each class spend at least 90 minutes on board, and certainly no less than one hour.
While the shuttle activities are geared toward the middle elementary grades, students in the 3rd grade and even high school freshmen have utilized the shuttle's resources. In these cases, classroom teachers are the key to extending their lessons from the classroom into the shuttle.
An on board teacher travels with the shuttle and coordinates the work station activities. For discipline and continuity purposes, we ask that a host teacher or teachers be on board during the entire mission.
Open houses on board the shuttle are often held at the end of the school day. Parents, family, and friends get to see what the students experienced during the mission.
Our crew, the Pilot and Teacher, will enjoy lunch in your lounge or with the students.
We ask that schools arrange for overnight accommodations when the shuttle travels the night before a mission and when the shuttle is in the area for more than a day.. When travel time exceeds two hours to our destination, the shuttle arrives the evening before a mission. During the winter months, we shorten that time to 90 minutes. In case of school closings, or the threat of heavy snow, we'll discuss the mission options with you. Safety of the crew and shuttle are of the utmost importance.
Fees are based on mileage, expenses, and $700.00 per day. This daily rate will be in effect for the remainder of 2009, and the 2009-2010 school year.
